In case you are not familiar, McCormick is a town with lots of historic sites to visit; the Dorn Museum, Eden Hall, The Mack Building and the Dorn Mines. The town is best known for being built over the Dorn Mines. The town of McCormick was incorporated in 1882. In February 1852 William Dorn discovered the second richest vein of gold in SC history on the site of the present town of McCormick. The town actually grew in size because of its mines. People came here to get rich fast. The current population is about 10,000 according to the 2000 census. Every year we celebrate with a Gold Rush Festival. Some of the original buildings are still standing on Main Street. At the Mack building each month a different local artist work is displayed. We are becoming a tourist town people come from all over the state to visit our parks, resort area (Savannah Lakes) hunting grounds, fishing and parks. We host many fishing tournaments each year on Lake Thurmond. We have three parks they are Hickory Knob State Park, Bakers Creek and Hamilton Branch State Park. For leisure time we have three golf courses for your pleasure.
